A couple of weekends ago we went up to my new favorite place to visit: Milwaukee for a get away to celebrate 20 years of being... MARRIED. I know. Sometimes it seems like 20 years and sometimes it seems like 1.
We had such a good time together as a family and ate such good food that we decided to keep the party rolling all summer long. Wait, do we need an excuse?
We started at the Harley Davidson Museum . I am not much of a motorcycle fan, but my husband is and it's his anniversary too right?
And nope, we did not buy a motorcycle, but we pretended we did!
Here are some other pictures from the museum which is a dramatically designed space, intended to look industrial like the surrounding neighborhood. It's beautifully lit, the motorcycles look like works of art, you learn a lot of history and you get to sit on a bunch of different Harleys at the end.
I could go on and on here, but then I would run out of time to include other luscious pictures, and by luscious, I mean food porn.
Up until now, I kinda thought you put tomato ketchup on fries and maybe sometimes mayonnaise if you were having a bad day and needed a little something extra, but clearly I hadn't been schooled yet in the ways of the Milwaukeeians. I've got two mind changing words: PORK FRIES from Honeypie Cafe. Pork didn't need to change my mind and come to think of it, fries didn't either, but put them together and its the best conjunction junction ever. Pork and fries intertwined and lovin' on each other like a 20 year old married couple. Ha-ha.
Those fries- if you can call them that- were decadent. I forgot to mention that I started this 4:45pm dinner with a huge, delicious Bloody Mary which is served with a side chaser of a baby Miller High Life (as local as it gets).
Went on to split "The Burger" with my sweetheart. I felt the plant kingdom was a little lacking here, so we also got a side of the day's vegetable special- brussel sprout slaw. The kids both ordered grilled cheese and fries. (surprised?!)
Ahhh, the pie and cupcake cabinet. The guy at the table ordered the peach pie and the kids and I each chose a different cupcake.
It was a great day.
I would go on another field trip to Milwaukee any time. Any takers?
Sarah:
